Employers Seek Solutions to Retain Talent in Curaçao

Local | By Correspondent February 11, 2025

WILLEMSTAD – How can employers retain talent in Curaçao? This pressing question took center stage during the networking event “Braingain through Engagement and Commitment,” where representatives from both the public and private sectors gathered at the Representation of the Netherlands. Employers and professionals discussed challenges and opportunities within Curaçao’s labor market.

The event featured roundtable discussions on five key themes: work culture, remigration, career opportunities, reintegration, and recruitment. Several challenges were highlighted, including a lack of transparency in hiring processes and limited career growth opportunities. Additionally, some employees noted the absence of flexible benefits packages and parental leave options.

Positive Takeaways and Proposed Solutions

Despite these concerns, participants also shared positive insights. One key observation was that assertiveness, a valuable skill often acquired in the Netherlands, can help professionals navigate Curaçao’s job market. A centralized job vacancy platform was also proposed, along with the suggestion that the Office of the Minister Plenipotentiary take on a more active role in talent recruitment.

The event was organized by Stichting WeConnect in collaboration with the Vereniging Nederlandse Werknemers (VNW). For employers, it provided an opportunity to expand their network, while professionals—particularly remigrants—were able to share experiences and connect with potential employers.

This initiative aligns with broader Kingdom Relations goals to stimulate braingain—the return and utilization of skilled professionals—and to enhance knowledge transfer within Curaçao’s labor market.
