Emergency meeting between ministry of GMN and medical specialists

Local | By Correspondent May 12, 2023

WILLEMSTAD - Minister Javier Silvania of Health, Environment, and Nature (GMN) has urgently requested a meeting with the National Association of Medical Professionals in Employment Curaçao (LVMPiL) through a formal letter. The minister aims to avoid resorting to legal action.

The Ministry of GMN intends to engage in discussions with the board to address concerns related to the National Ordinance Norming Top Incomes (LNT) and other pressing issues within the healthcare system and specialist field. Silvania emphasizes that the primary objective of the emergency meeting is to explore potential solutions and determine the necessary follow-up steps.

The Curaçao Medical Center (CMC) has issued a warning that it will take legal action if the health minister fails to address the conflict surrounding the LNT within one week.

Since the adoption of the LNT in December of last year, CMC employees have been expressing their apprehensions. The regulation has resulted in numerous specialists, including those from Curaçao, no longer seeking employment at the hospital.

The scheme imposes a financial limit on specialists, hindering their ability to carry out their work with the required precision and quality. Consequently, numerous medical procedures are being delayed, exacerbating the already lengthy waiting times in various departments. The consultation has been scheduled for Monday, May 15th, at 4 p.m.
