WILLEMSTAD - Elvin Gerard is stepping down to make way for Ruthmilda Larmonie-Cecilia in Parliament, representing the PNP party. Rumors of Gerard relinquishing his seat have circulated for some time, and now several local media outlets report that Gerard will continue as an assistant to the PNP faction.
This change comes after the recent split within the MFK and PNP coalition. The coalition collapsed when the MFK faction withdrew its support for two PNP parliamentarians, Sheldry Osepa and Gwendell Mercelina.
Gerard cites health reasons for his departure. Although he has not yet submitted an official resignation letter, it is expected to happen soon. Once that occurs, the process will begin to allow Larmonie-Cecilia to join Parliament.
