Electricity in Curaçao Now Cheaper Than in the Netherlands, Says Aqualectra CFO

WILLEMSTAD – Electricity prices in Curaçao are currently lower than in the Netherlands, according to Neysa Isenia, Chief Financial Officer of Aqualectra. Isenia noted that this is a significant shift, as such favorable pricing has not been seen in a long time.

The newspaper reports that the drop in electricity prices is largely due to Aqualectra's transition to more affordable Marine Fuel Oil, as well as the commissioning of a new wind farm in January of this year.

Aqualectra also saw notable growth in utility consumption. In 2023, electricity sales rose by 9 percent compared to the previous year. Drinking water sales increased by 4 percent over the same period. These figures were shared by Isenia earlier this week and reflect ongoing efforts to improve efficiency and expand renewable energy use on the island.
