Electricity and water prices lowered

WILLEMSTAD - Electricity and water prices are going down as of today, according to the figures released on Friday by the Bureau of Telecommunications and Post (BT&P). The main reason is the decrease in production costs for both electricity and water, which leads to a lower consumer price.

Electricity will go down from 67 cents per kWh to 63 cents per kWh. The costs of water will also decrease. Last month, households paid 9.55 guilders per cubic meter, while this month it will be 9.33 guilders.

The basic rate for water and electricity is set once a year by BT&P. Differences in costs depend on other factors, including production costs. The new rates apply for the entire month of May.

Usually, BTP sends out new fuel prices at the same time as electricity and water rates. However, this time it did not happen. Unconfirmed sources report that fuel prices are expected to increase significantly, but the Pisas government is said to be hesitant to decide on this matter.
