WILLEMSTAD - The well-known elderly care home 'Nos Welita' in Zapateer is facing difficulties. The Health Inspection has identified that the problem primarily lies in the organizational aspect. The daily management and supervisory board overlap, resulting in a lack of adequate supervision in practice.
Nos Welita is one of the few elderly care homes on Curaçao housed in a building specifically developed for elderly care. It was established following a civic action led by Sandra Hay, wife of the renowned singer Barry Hay from the Golden Earring.
Not only did the Inspection have remarks regarding the organizational aspect, but also regarding the conditions in which the relatively new elderly care home is situated. The lighting in the bedrooms and kitchen is insufficient and needs to be adjusted. A cleaning program and schedule must be established to address this issue promptly.
The staff's clothing needs to be modified; wearing slippers and personal garments is not permitted. Defective furniture and beds must be replaced.
Concerning the financial and material aspects, separate inspection investigations will continue in the following weeks. The organization requires restructuring.
