WILLEMSTAD - In 2018, 18 people were killed in traffic in Curaçao. That is just as much as in 2016 and 2017. On the blog Achterkant van Curaçao is since this weekend an overview of all fatal traffic accidents of the previous year.
It shows that 12 of 18 dead were killed in the evening or night. Alcohol and high speed play a role in 13 of the 18 cases.
Many cases also concern drivers who do not wear a seat belt. Most victims were between 25 and 50 years of age. A total of 2 motorcyclists were killed and 3 pedestrians. Police and Public Prosecution Service have indicated that they will check more strictly in traffic in 2019.
