WILLEMSTAD - In three months, eight gambling companies have applied for and obtained a license from the Gaming Control Board in Curaçao. This information was revealed during a technical briefing on the Gambling Ordinance. The Ministry of Finance made this announcement, stating that a total of 117 gambling companies have expressed interest.
According to the ministry, these online casinos contribute nearly 1 million guilders to the state treasury. On Friday, the Minister of Finance, Javier Silvania, spoke for over two hours in Parliament about the Gambling Ordinance (LOK) he had submitted. The minister himself requested the scheduling of the technical briefing after his draft law faced criticism during a parliamentary session in January.
Last week, the Curaçao Union of Trust Offices Foundation heavily criticized the draft version of the LOK. According to the foundation, the current design of the new law is far from complete, making it completely unclear which stakeholders have responsibility and to what extent.
