Education union 'Doen' not happy with temporary decision on scaling

Local | By Correspondent March 2, 2023

WILLEMSTAD - Education employees want an urgent solution to the temporary decision that teachers will not be scaled up. This was emphasized by the education union 'Doen' during a meeting on Tuesday evening. More than 200 employees from education attended the meeting.

The cry for help from those present was that Minister of Education Sithree van Heydoorn should meet with trade union 'Doen'. Many teachers who are classified in the B scale should actually be in a higher scale. 'Doen' wants to work with the minister to find a solution that compensates for the temporary salary cut.

The meeting was at the initiative of the union. They have presented an extensive analysis of the legal position of employees. The analysis is made from the year 2005, up to the current situation experienced by teachers. The decision to temporarily stop scaling was taken by the Ministry of Education, Science, Culture and Sport (OWCS).

The education union will meet again on March 14, with a summary of the conversation with Van Heydoorn.
