WILLEMSTAD – The Ministry of Education says it is making significant progress in modernizing Curaçao's legal framework for education through four major legislative initiatives.
According to the ministry, legislation on Special Primary Education is now ready for debate in Parliament. Other bills under development include legislation on school safety plans, higher education and education supervision. The reforms are being supported by the Dutch Ministry of the Interior and Kingdom Relations (BZK).
Officials said the legislative package is intended to provide modern, future-oriented education supported by transparent funding mechanisms and laws that better reflect the needs of society.
The ministry also reported that work has begun on reviewing teachers' job classifications and salary structures, while a new transparent school funding model is nearing completion for primary education and has already begun for secondary education.
