WILLEMSTAD – Sithree van Heydoorn will travel to Miami from Thursday through Monday for an official working visit focused on education cooperation and sports.

The minister will be accompanied by several representatives, including Sidney Justiana of the Stichting Studiefinanciering Curaçao.

During the visit, Van Heydoorn is scheduled to sign a cooperation agreement with the Florida Institute of Technology. The agreement is expected to provide Curaçao students with reduced tuition fees, opportunities for student exchange and pathways for further study in the United States.

In addition to the academic partnership, the minister will attend games of the Netherlands national baseball team during the World Baseball Classic 2026. The team includes several players from Curaçao and is led by manager and Hall of Fame member Andruw Jones.

Van Heydoorn said the visit highlights the connection between education, talent development and sports. According to the minister, the new academic partnership and support for athletes contribute to developing talent, strengthening national pride and increasing Curaçao’s international visibility.

He added that such initiatives can also have positive effects on the island’s economy and tourism.
