WILLEMSTAD - Economic diversification is one of the central pillars of the 2025–2029 governing program. The Ministry of Economic Development outlines plans to reduce dependence on traditional sectors by stimulating innovation, expanding trade relations, and developing specialized economic zones.
Key policy directions include the creation of a special economic zone compliant with international licensing standards, the expansion of bilateral trade agreements with countries such as Colombia, the Dominican Republic, Trinidad and Tobago, and Suriname, and a structured public investment agenda aimed at addressing long-standing infrastructure delays.
Tourism remains an important sector, but the government intends to extract more value from it by implementing recommendations from the carrying capacity study and exploring the introduction of an entry fee, while maintaining Curaçao’s competitive position.
