WILLEMSTAD - On Thursday evening, a 3.5 magnitude earthquake struck Curaçao, centered 54 kilometers west of the island. Residents in Banda’bou reported feeling the tremor, sharing their experiences on social media, but no damage has been reported.
The Meteorological Service quickly confirmed the earthquake, reassuring the public that there is no risk of a tsunami. The tremor occurred at precisely 7:39 p.m., marking an unusual seismic event for Curaçao, where earthquakes are relatively rare.
The last notable quake was on May 25, when a 3.6 magnitude earthquake shook the island. That quake’s epicenter was located 46 kilometers south of Curaçao at a depth of ten kilometers.
