WILLEMSTAD – A fire in the early hours of yesterday morning caused significant damage to a building on Sha Caprileskade in Punda, currently housing Fundashon Marshe. The structure, formerly used by the Post Savings Bank, caught fire around 2:00 a.m., prompting a rapid response from the Steenrijk Fire Department and Punda police.
Firefighters managed to bring the blaze under control quickly, successfully preventing it from spreading to nearby buildings. However, the building itself sustained considerable damage, both inside and out.
According to initial reports, important documents belonging to Fundashon Marshe were destroyed in the fire.
The Technical Forensic Investigation Unit (TFO) launched an on-site investigation to determine the cause of the fire. Authorities are examining whether the incident was accidental or deliberately set. Curaçao’s Chief of Police was also present at the scene to assess the situation firsthand.
The investigation is ongoing.
