WILLEMSTAD – A Dutch tourist died on Wednesday afternoon after experiencing complications while swimming at Tugboat Beach. The man was found unconscious near the beach and could not be revived despite efforts by bystanders and emergency responders.
According to the Curaçao Police Force (KPC), Central Police received a report at around 12:23 p.m. about a man at Tugboat Beach who was not showing signs of life.
A police unit from Montaña and a Politur unit were immediately dispatched to the location. Upon arrival, officers found a Dutch national lying near the beach who was already unresponsive.
A preliminary investigation indicated that the victim had experienced medical complications while diving. People who were with him brought him back to shore and attempted to perform resuscitation until emergency services arrived.
An ambulance crew also responded, but their efforts were unsuccessful. The man did not survive and was pronounced dead at the scene.
The police doctor identified the victim as Michael D. van de Wetering, born on September 4, 1977, in the Netherlands.
Authorities have not provided further details regarding the exact medical cause of death.
