Dutch Supreme Court ruling on same-sex marriage to be broadcast live

WILLEMSTAD - On Friday, July 12, 2024, at 3:00 PM Dutch time and 9:00 AM Curaçao time, the Dutch Supreme Court will deliver its ruling in two cases concerning the legalization of same-sex marriage in Aruba and Curaçao. The rulings will be broadcast live via a livestream on the homepage of www.hogeraad.nl.

On December 6, 2022, the Joint Court of Justice of Aruba, Curaçao, Sint Maarten, and of Bonaire, Sint Eustatius, and Saba determined that provisions in the legislation of Aruba and Curaçao that exclude same-sex marriage are not applicable.

This ruling does not affect the ability to adopt children. Both the governments of Aruba and Curaçao have appealed this decision to the Supreme Court.

On December 22, 2023, Advocate General (AG) Snijders advised the Supreme Court to uphold the decision of the Joint Court.
