WILLEMSTAD – Dutch State Secretary Zsolt Szabó will visit Aruba and Curaçao from April 8 to 11 as part of a working visit focused on meeting Aruba’s new government, attending the Governor’s Consultation in Curaçao, and discussing topics related to good governance and economic development.
Visit to Aruba
Szabó’s visit will begin on Tuesday, April 8, in Aruba, where he will meet with the new cabinet, led by Prime Minister Mike Eman, as well as members of the Aruban Parliament.
A key focus of the visit will be good governance. Szabó will attend a lecture at the University of Aruba by Mieke de Droog, Program Director of the Aruban Institute for Good Governance and Leadership, followed by an interactive Q&A session with students.
In line with his priorities of economic self-sufficiency, good governance, and financial stability, Szabó will inaugurate a new branch of Pro-Tec, a technical installation company specializing in cooling buildings using seawater. Pro-Tec was recently acquired by the Dutch firm Van Dorp.
Visit to Curaçao
On April 9, Szabó will participate in the first Governor’s Consultation of the year, a biannual meeting held alternately in the Netherlands or one of the Caribbean territories, bringing together the Governors of Curaçao, Aruba, and Sint Maarten.
During his stay, he will also meet with Prime Minister Gilmar ‘Pik’ Pisas and representatives of Kòrsou Transparente, an organization dedicated to preventing and combating corruption in Curaçao.
On April 10, Szabó will hold discussions on economic development with Anouschka Cova, Director of the Curaçao Hospitality and Tourism Association (CHATA), and Miles Mercera, Director of CINEX, the Curaçao Investment & Export Promotion Agency.
At the U.S. Consulate in Willemstad, Szabó will meet with the newly appointed Consul General Ramón Negrón. Additionally, he will discuss governance and crime prevention with the Criminal Investigation Cooperation Team (RST) and Attorney General Guillano Schoop.
On April 11, accompanied by Curaçao’s Minister of Finance Javier Silvania, Szabó will visit the Customs Office at the Port of Curaçao and receive a briefing at Hato International Airport on border security operations carried out by the Royal Netherlands Marechaussee. He will also attend part of a meeting with the Lieutenant Governors of Bonaire, Sint Eustatius, and Saba, which will be held in Curaçao.
