Dutch Opposition Parties Call for Discussion on 2BAYS Development Near Curaçao Port

WILLEMSTAD, THE HAGUE – Dutch opposition parties ChristenUnie and D66 are urging the Netherlands to take an active role in the development of the area around the Curaçao port by the company 2BAYS. Members of Parliament Don Ceder (ChristenUnie) and Mpanzu Bamega (D66) submitted a motion yesterday requesting that the Dutch government engage in talks with the Curaçao government regarding the project. However, State Secretary Zsolt Szabó for Kingdom Relations has stated that now is not the right time for such discussions.

The motion highlights the potential benefits of 2BAYS’ plans, which include ventures in wind energy and green hydrogen production. Ceder noted that these initiatives could also represent valuable opportunities for European Netherlands.

The debate reflects ongoing conversations about cooperation and shared interests within the Kingdom of the Netherlands, particularly around sustainable development and energy transition in the Caribbean territories.
