Dutch Naval Ship Zr.Ms. Pelikaan Delivers Second Shipment of Humanitarian Aid to Jamaica

WILLEMSTAD, KINGSTON - After successfully completing its first relief mission, the Dutch naval vessel Zr.MsPelikaan is once again en route to Jamaica with a second shipment of humanitarian aid. The ship is expected to arrive today, Wednesday, November 12, carrying vital supplies to support ongoing recovery efforts.

Immediately after unloading its initial cargo of aid and emergency materials on Tuesday, November 4, the Pelikaan returned to Barbados the same day to take on a new load. On Saturday, the vessel was restocked for the second mission, reaffirming the Dutch Navy’s commitment to disaster relief in the Caribbean region.

This latest shipment includes vehicles, emergency tents, and medical equipment, along with containers holding over 150,000 cans of food, solar-powered lamps, jerrycans, and generators.

During its previous delivery, the Pelikaan transported a desalination unit for producing drinking water, 1,440 emergency rations, 1,000 shelter kits, 1,200 tents, and 1,400 field beds to Jamaica.

Equipped with a large cargo hold and its own crane, Zr.MsPelikaan is designed for logistical support operations, making it an ideal vessel for delivering relief supplies to Caribbean islands hit by natural disasters.

Providing humanitarian assistance is one of the three main missions of the Dutch Defense Forces in the Caribbean, alongside maintaining security and supporting local authorities when needed.
