THE HAGUE – Member of Parliament Peter van Haasen (PVV) has expressed his disapproval of the political party KEM for nominating Michelangelo Martines as their lead candidate for the upcoming elections, despite the accusations against him.
Van Haasen called the decision "shameful," arguing that Martines’ ongoing detention, even without a conviction, renders his nomination inappropriate. "The fact that he has been in custody for a month is enough to deem this decision unacceptable and embarrassing," Van Haasen stated.
The MP urged the State Secretary for Kingdom Relations to address the matter with the island governments. "The islands deserve good governance, and this situation does not contribute to that," he concluded.
This controversy has sparked debate about the standards of political leadership and governance within the Kingdom of the Netherlands.
