THE HAGUE – The Dutch government says cybersecurity and data protection are becoming increasingly important priorities across the Kingdom as cooperation intensifies between the Caribbean countries and the Netherlands.
The comments appear in a cabinet response to the Dutch Parliament following discussions held during the Interparliamentary Kingdom Consultation (IPKO) in Aruba earlier this year.
According to the Dutch government, IPKO delegates received presentations from Aruba’s Security Service concerning cybersecurity awareness and the Kingdom’s broader security strategy.
The cabinet confirmed that work is ongoing toward greater Kingdom-wide harmonization of data protection laws, including alignment with international standards such as Convention 108+ of the Council of Europe.
The Dutch government described personal data protection as a key pillar for the secure processing, sharing and exchange of information across the Kingdom.
According to the report, harmonization of privacy and cybersecurity legislation remains a recurring topic during the Justice Four-Party Consultations between the countries of the Kingdom.
The issue is becoming increasingly important as governments, businesses and critical infrastructure throughout the Caribbean region become more digitally interconnected and vulnerable to cyber threats.
