Dutch Director Johan Nijenhuis Continues ‘Verliefd op’ Film Series with New Movie Set in Curaçao

WILLEMSTAD - Dutch filmmaker Johan Nijenhuis is continuing his popular Verliefd op (“In Love With”) film series with a new installment set in Curaçao. Following Verliefd op Ibiza, Verliefd op Cuba, and Verliefd op Bali, the latest film is scheduled for release at the end of January 2026, the director announced yesterday.

Details about the cast have not yet been revealed. Previous films in the series featured leading roles played by well-known Dutch actors such as Jan Kooijman, Jim Bakkum, Susan Visser, Anouk Maas, and Kim Feenstra.

The new story centers around 25-year-old Lars, who is about to get married. However, his mother Merel is still single, and not wanting to leave her alone, he invites her on a sunny vacation to Curaçao—without telling her it’s actually a singles’ trip.

The earlier three films in the Verliefd op series were box office successes, each attracting hundreds of thousands of cinema-goers. Fans eagerly await to see how the tropical backdrop of Curaçao will shape this latest romantic comedy.
