WILLEMSTAD - Koen Davidse, Director-General for Policy at the Dutch Ministry of Defence, paid an official visit yesterday to Curaçao Governor Mauritsz de Kort to discuss the current geopolitical situation in the region. The meeting focused on rising tensions between the United States and Venezuela, a development that has raised concern among many residents on the island.

Davidse was accompanied by Commander Walter Hansen, Commander of the Navy in the Caribbean and Director of the Caribbean Coast Guard. During the talks, they exchanged views with the governor on potential crisis management arrangements, including ways the Dutch armed forces can support local authorities should regional instability escalate.

Also present at the meeting were Roos Wagemakers, dossier holder at the Directorate of International Affairs, and Lieutenant Colonel Mark van Beek, adviser to the Director-General for Defense Policy.

The discussions reflect growing regional uncertainty and the need for coordinated preparedness between Curaçao and the Kingdom’s defense institutions.
