WILLEMSTAD – On Monday, March 2, 2026, the official opening took place at The Triangle Curaçao of a training week organized by the Dutch Custodial Institutions Service (Dienst Justitiële Inrichtingen – DJI) for staff of the Curaçao Detention and Correction Center (SDKK).
The training runs from March 2 through March 6, 2026, and focuses on the theme “Intercultural Working.” The initiative was made possible through close cooperation between the Ministry of Justice of Curaçao and the Dutch Ministry of the Interior and Kingdom Relations (BZK).
During the training week, SDKK staff will receive practical and valuable instruction aimed at strengthening their daily professional practice. Topics include:
- Raising awareness of cultural differences in communication and behavior;
- Preventing misunderstandings and escalation;
- Acting professionally within a multicultural detention system;
- Strengthening authority and security in practice.
The sessions are being led by Mr. Joppe van der Bruggen, a professional trainer from the Training Institute of the Dutch Custodial Institutions Service (DJI) in the Netherlands.
At the official opening ceremony, remarks were delivered by Head of Detention Mr. Ludwin Maria, Acting Secretary-General of the Ministry of Justice Ms. Gimena van der Gen, and keynote speaker Mr. Joppe van der Bruggen, who provided an introduction to the training program that will be conducted throughout the week.
The Ministry of Justice and SDKK expressed strong appreciation for the cooperation and the opportunity to provide this training. According to officials, the program is expected to make a significant contribution to further professionalizing SDKK staff, who work daily with individuals from diverse cultural backgrounds.
