Dutch Citizen Reportedly Detained as Political Prisoner in Venezuela

Local | By Correspondent March 7, 2025

CARACAS – The Dutch newspaper Telegraaf reported today that a Dutch national is currently being held as a political prisoner in Venezuela. According to the report, a local human rights organization has revealed the information, though the identity of the individual remains shrouded in secrecy.

The Dutch Ministry of Foreign Affairs has acknowledged being aware of the situation, but, in response to Telegraaf's inquiry, stated that it could not confirm the arrest due to the absence of a consular assistance request.

Over the recent period, the Maduro regime has reportedly imprisoned 66 foreign political prisoners, including the Dutch citizen, several other Europeans, and five Americans. The Telegraaf also mentioned that additional foreign nationals were detained last month. This latest development raises further concerns about the Venezuelan government's treatment of foreign detainees.
