Dutch Caribbean Coast Guard conducts medical evacuation

Local | By Press release December 2, 2024

WILLEMSTAD - On Sunday afternoon, the Maritime Operations Center (MOC) of the Dutch Caribbean Coast Guard successfully coordinated a medical evacuation after receiving an emergency call from a British Navy ship near the ABC Islands.

The British vessel reported that one of its crew members had suffered a severe head injury caused by a hard blow, necessitating immediate medical assistance. The MOC swiftly enlisted the help of the Dutch naval vessel Zr.Ms. Holland, which was operating under the Coast Guard flag in the region.

In response, the Zr.Ms. Holland deployed an NH90 helicopter to the British ship to evacuate the injured crew member. The operation was executed efficiently, with the helicopter flying the patient to Hato, Curaçao.

At the Hato airport, ambulance personnel were on standby to receive the injured individual. The crew member was then transported to the Curaçao Medical Center (CMC), where they received the necessary medical care.
