WILLEMSTAD - The Education Executive Agency (DUO) will visit all the islands of the Caribbean at the end of September to provide former students with information on repaying their student loans. This was announced by the Dutch Caribbean Government in a press release.
According to the education finance platform, many students are repaying a higher amount on their student loans than necessary. The message is clear: don't overpay.
DUO often does not have information about the income of former students because it has not been properly reported. As a result, the monthly repayment amount can be much higher than necessary. DUO determines this amount based on the current salary, which is assessed before repayment begins.
Students eligible for a recalculation of their monthly repayment amount can expect an email at the end of this month. DUO assures that the monthly repayment amount will never increase after the recalculation.
Local service offices will be opened on all the islands, both in the Windward and Leeward Antilles, starting from late September (at specific times) where students can receive assistance. The exact opening hours can be found on the DUO website. Students can also attend webinars to gather additional information.
