Local | By Correspondent October 9, 2024

WILLEMSTAD - Dudley Lucia was elected last night as the new chairperson of the Partido Nashonal di Pueblo (PNP). After a confusing situation that led to two voting rounds, party members ultimately appointed Lucia, who was the sole candidate for the position.

Lucia’s appointment comes at a critical time for the party, which is dealing with internal tensions. His experience within the PNP and the hope of restoring calm within the party are key factors as they move forward. Lucia has been active in the party for years, previously holding high-ranking positions, including Secretary-General and President of Curaçao’s Parliament, the Staten.

Having led the Staten for ten years and serving a total of twenty years in the body, Lucia is known for his calm leadership style. He is seen as someone capable of bringing stability back to the party.

With Lucia's appointment, the PNP hopes to restore discipline and unity within the party as they prepare for a potential return to government leadership.
