Drug interception for Zr.Ms. Holland and the Caribbean Coast Guard

Local | By Press release November 28, 2022

WILLEMSTAD - The Dutch naval vessel Zr.Ms. Holland, currently sailing for the Caribbean Coast Guard, tried to stop a drug transport south of Bonaire on Friday morning. The go-fast eventually managed to flee, but in the run, they threw the drugs overboard in what is called a 'disrupt'.

The drug transport was detected on Friday by the Caribbean Coast Guard patrol plane. The Coast Guard's Maritime Operations Center informed the station ship that immediately deployed its FRISC interceptor vessel. The FRISC, with a combined team of the ship's crew and Fleet Marine Squadron on board, went after the go-fast. During the chase, those onboard the go-fast threw several packages of contraband overboard. These packages were removed from the water by the FRISC crew after the 'disrupt'.

The drug packages were later handed over to the Coast Guard, which delivered them to the Curaçao Police Force. In total, more than 630 kilograms of cocaine were removed from the sea. Zr.Ms. Holland has been active in the region as a station ship for the Caribbean since October 2022 and alternates counter-drug operations supporting the Caribbean Coast Guard.
