Local | By Correspondent December 10, 2024

WILLEMSTAD - A driver caused a power outage in several neighborhoods last night after losing control of his vehicle while under the influence of alcohol and crashing into an electricity pole. The incident occurred in Seru Grandi, prompting officers from the Montaña police station to respond to the scene.

The impact caused the pickup truck to collide with the utility pole, toppling it to the ground. The police closed the road due to the hazardous conditions, as several live power lines were left hanging across the roadway. As a result, many homes in the surrounding areas were left without electricity.

Energy company Aqualectra was called in to assist with repairing the damage and ensuring safety at the site. The driver was taken into custody by the police and transported to the station for questioning. He is expected to be held accountable for the damages caused.

Authorities have reiterated the dangers of driving under the influence and are urging motorists to act responsibly to prevent such incidents.
