WILLEMSTAD - The dredging for the marina in the Zakitó area will commence soon, as confirmed by Charles Cooper, the Minister of Traffic, Transportation, and Spatial Planning (VVRP).
Additionally, the pedestrian bridge that crosses the mouth to the sea on Koridor Road will be removed, and the mouth will be widened. In the new harbor, an electronic drawbridge will be installed to allow yachts to enter and exit.
The lagoon primarily contains silt that needs to be dredged. The entity responsible for this task is yet to be announced. The government will cover a portion of the expenses, while the remaining costs will be borne by the Royal Holding Company II, the company that will become the new owner of the harbor. Apart from the harbor, hotels will also be constructed.
The permits for the construction of the harbor with hotels in the area were issued in May for the establishment of the new Zakitó harbor.
The exact date of the start of the inland water dredging was not disclosed.
