WILLEMSTAD - The government has prepared a draft list that includes nitrous oxide as a prohibited substance as part of the new Opium Ordinance. This information comes in response to questions from the MAN faction.
"Nitrous oxide must be on List II of the 'Controlled Substances Regulation.' A draft is ready," the government stated.
Earlier, it was reported that Minister of Justice Shalten Hato had submitted a legislative proposal to ban nitrous oxide. Both the Curaçao Police and the Public Prosecution Service have frequently called for a ban on nitrous oxide.
In addition, the government aims to establish a "List II Essential Chemicals" for substances that can be used to manufacture drugs, in accordance with international treaty obligations. The drafts will first be reviewed by the Directorate of Legislation and Legal Affairs (WJZ) before being presented to Parliament.
