Doubts among aviation experts after fire in JetAir aircraft

Local | By Correspondent April 8, 2024

WILLEMSTAD - Aviation experts affiliated with the Curaçao Civil Aviation Authority have expressed concerns about the use of Venezuelan aircraft by JetAir.

Recently, a fire broke out on an aircraft that was about to take off to one of the ABC islands. According to the afternoon newspaper, the airline is working to establish stable flights between Aruba, Bonaire, and Curaçao. JetAir has entered into a partnership with Albatros Airlines, a Venezuelan airline that would provide the aircraft to JetAir.

The experts say that due to Venezuela's precarious financial situation, it cannot be guaranteed that all aircraft meet safety standards. Additionally, due to international sanctions against the country, there are doubts whether the aircraft are being maintained according to regulations. The fire that broke out in one of the engines seems to confirm this concern.

On JetAir's website, single and return tickets from Curaçao to Aruba and Bonaire can still be booked, indicating that no flights have been canceled yet.
