Donation for HIV-care

Local | By Correspondent April 21, 2023

WILLEMSTAD - Salú pa Tur (Health for All), a foundation providing free primary care to uninsured migrants, has received a donation of 25,000 guilders from Fundashon Plons. The donation is intended for HIV care and will help ensure that more people are tested for the virus. Patients currently have to pay for HIV tests themselves, which can be a barrier to early detection and treatment.

Early detection of HIV is crucial in reducing the risk of AIDS. An HIV diagnosis is no longer a death sentence, as medication can help manage the disease. However, due to the stigma surrounding HIV, many people in the Caribbean islands get tested late, which can lead to more severe health problems and a higher risk of transmission.

The donation from Fundashon Plons is a step towards increasing access to HIV testing and care in the region. By providing funding for HIV testing, Salú pa Tur can ensure that more people receive timely and appropriate care. This is especially important for uninsured migrants who may not have access to healthcare services otherwise.

The number of new HIV infections in the Caribbean islands is not decreasing, and this is partly due to late testing and diagnosis. By increasing access to testing and care, we can help reduce the spread of HIV and improve the health outcomes for those living with the virus.

In conclusion, the donation from Fundashon Plons to Salú pa Tur for HIV care is a positive step towards increasing access to testing and care in the region. By working together to reduce the stigma surrounding HIV and increasing awareness of the importance of early detection and treatment, we can help improve the health outcomes for those living with the virus.
