WILLEMSTAD - During an inspiring presentation at the San Marco Hotel, Downtown Management Organization (DMO) President Michelle Metsch unveiled the vision and strategic plans of 'The World of Punda' to its stakeholders in the presence of Minister of Finance/Health, Environment and Nature Javier Silvania, Minister of Transportation, Traffic and Urban Planning Charles Cooper, Minister of Economic Development Ruisandro Cijntje, Minister of Governance, Planning and Public Service Ornelio Martina, and representatives from other ministries.
The vision plan 'The World of Punda', compiled on behalf of DMO by Hans van Aalst, a professional City Manager with experience in various cities in the Netherlands, aims to transform Punda into a vibrant and attractive destination for both residents and visitors. At the end of April, the plan was already presented to the retailers, property owners, and established organizations in Punda.
The foundation of the vision to position Punda as the pulsating heart of Willemstad, part of 'The World Heritage City of The Caribbean', is formed by the core values of historical, economic, safe, attractive, accessible, cultural, vital, innovative, and sustainable. By, among other things, attracting the National Theater, discussions about which are currently being held with Tanja Kross and the Ministry of OSWCS. Also, expanding international exhibitions of the synagogue, increasing diversity of entrepreneurs, and promoting living in Punda by creating more amenities will also lead to more jobs and strengthen the international character of the historic downtown.
'The World of Punda' has a grand vision: to breathe new life into Punda by preserving its heritage, improving living conditions, celebrating diversity, stimulating the economy, and promoting sustainable economic growth. With everyone on board and clear objectives, the aim is to make Punda a lively, inviting place that honors its past and embraces its cultural richness.
The implementation of this vision is supported by a strategic plan, action plan, and execution plan, with collaboration with stakeholders at its core. The launch of 'The World of Punda' will need to be financed by various sources, including government contributions, joint contributions from property owners, and entrepreneurs.
"Today's presentation marks a significant milestone in the development of Punda," concluded Metsch. "We are committed to collaborating with all stakeholders to realize this vision and create a vibrant and resilient Punda where people can live, work, and explore culture.
