DMO expresses regret over delay in addressing dangerous situation in Keukenstraat and Sommeldijkstraat in Punda

Local | By Press release August 16, 2023

WILLEMSTAD - The Urban Planning Service (ROP) recently announced that on Monday, August 13th, demolition work will commence on the building located at the corner of Keukenstraat and Sommeldijkstraat 8 in Punda.

The Punda community and the Downtown Management Organization (DMO) express their regret over the fact that the action announced by ROP will result in a delay in addressing the dangerous situation present in Keukenstraat/Sommeldijkstraat in Punda.

For quite some time, the mentioned building has posed a significant threat to everyone working in the area, our residents, and visitors to Punda. Hence, for DMO, it was important for ROP to start as soon as possible, especially since the streets will be closed for an extended period in the coming months, which indeed presents a major obstacle. VVRP and Minister Cooper worked diligently to ensure that ROP could begin work this week, a step that DMO immensely appreciates and is grateful for all the preparations made.

Therefore, DMO calls upon all parties to come to the table urgently and reach an agreement as swiftly as possible so that ROP can continue with the planned work and restore our city center to the safety it should be.

DMO also appeals to the entire Punda community to help maintain our Punda in good condition. Together, we will surely achieve this.
