WILLEMSTAD - A man died last Saturday while diving near the beach of Marie Pampoen, the police report.
The police received a report around 4 p.m. of drowning at Marie Pampoen. Bystanders had already pulled the man out of the water. They tried to resuscitate the man but to no avail.
The police doctor has since confirmed the man's death. The Public Prosecution Service has seized the diver's body for an autopsy. Initial investigation shows that the man got into trouble while diving. The man ingested too much water and died as a result.
The identity of the victim has not yet been released until the family has been informed about what happened.
