WILLEMSTAD - Parliamentarian Michelangelo Martines of the KEM party is concerned about increasing discontent in the community over the refusal of 100-guilder bills by various businesses, such as gas stations and supermarkets. KEM stated that they have sent a letter with questions to Minister of Finance Javier Silvania.
According to Martines, businesses justify their decision by pointing to the large number of counterfeit 100-guilder bills in circulation, for which their detection equipment is reportedly inadequate. As a result, all bills of this denomination are being rejected, causing frustration among citizens who use these bills.
The KEM faction has described the situation as unacceptable and unjust for the community and has urgently requested answers from Silvania. They want to know if the minister is aware of these practices and whether they comply with current monetary laws.
Additionally, the party seeks clarification on the extent of the counterfeit bill problem and what measures are being taken to address it.
