WILLEMSTAD - Curaçao Medical Center (CMC) and the Ministry of Health, Environment, and Nature have settled a long-standing dispute regarding the healthcare budget for the National Ordinance Basic Health Insurance (BVZ). This issue has now been resolved, as reported.

After a legal battle in which CMC demanded approximately 40 million guilders, the ministry adjusted the budget to 209 million guilders for the period from November 15, 2019, to December 31, 2020, and 190 million guilders for the period from January 1, 2021, to December 31, 2021. Additionally, the ministry paid 1 million guilders for accreditation costs for the same period.

An agreement is yet to be reached for the compensation of CMC's transition and startup costs, estimated to be nearly 40 million guilders. Furthermore, an agreement has been reached for the reimbursement of healthcare costs for the uninsured for the years 2019-2022, with an allocated amount of 20 million guilders.
