Benefit from the best data plans, while keeping your own number
WILLEMSTAD - Digicel is the very first provider to offer every mobile phone user in Curaçao and the other ABC islands the latest of the newest: the option of eSIM. eSIM stands for embedded SIM card, or a virtual SIM card integrated into your phone. Customers of any provider can now use this new technology, which is rapidly conquering the world, via Digicel - and while retaining their own number. Digicel makes this possible because, in the words of Digicel's down-to-earth CEO Roeland van der Hoeven, "customers want it and Digicel listens to its customers. But of course, also because eSIM technology is the future, it's just that simple". The company thus continues to set the trend in the world of telecom.
Because Digicel is not only the first, but also the only provider to offer this latest technology on Curaçao and the other Leeward Islands. And not only for its own customers, but also for those of other providers. Digicel also wants to allow them to benefit from Digicel eSIM, without having to give up their old number. "They can therefore benefit from data from Digicel while retaining their old number, for example to browse locally or roam internationally," says Van der Hoeven.
According to the CEO, eSIM works the same as the old, 'physical' SIM card. Van der Hoeven: "Once customers have set up their eSIM, they can use our network, upgrade it, or activate a data plan, just as they are used to with the traditional SIM."
The only requirement for using eSIM is a smartphone that supports this technology. “Digicel offers eSIM for any smartphone with eSIM capability,” said the CEO, “regardless of where or who the phone was purchased from.” If you are already a Digicel customer and want to have your old SIM card replaced by eSIM, you can do this free of charge at any Digicel store, and even at the kiosk at the airport.
When asked for whom eSIM is mainly a solution, Van der Hoeven answers: "For anyone who travels regularly and who wants to use our network on other Caribbean islands, or who wants to take advantage of our advantageous roaming bundles. And tourists here, for example. They can have eSIM activated at any of our points of sale and then immediately use our data plans."
But the CEO thinks eventually everyone will move to eSIM. "It's the convenience. That SIM card thing is over. Again, it's the future." Van der Hoeven is proud to be at the forefront of this with Digicel.
