WILLEMSTAD – The man who escaped from the SDKK prison barracks earlier this morning has been apprehended. According to the Minister of Justice, 25-year-old Gilberto Jakoba, born in Curaçao, was arrested in Otrobanda. Social media reports indicate that Jakoba was spotted heading to Kranshi while still wearing his prison clothes, which led to his capture.
This morning, the security personnel at SDKK noticed during a routine check that Jakoba, who had been in the final phase of serving his sentence, was missing from the men's barracks. Upon discovering the escape, the prison staff immediately contacted the management team, who in turn informed the Minister of Justice.
Jakoba’s escape triggered a search operation, and the authorities worked quickly to locate him. The Minister of Justice expressed disappointment over Jakoba’s decision to escape, emphasizing that he had been participating in a rehabilitation program and was nearing the completion of his sentence. The Minister further highlighted the importance of ongoing improvements in SDKK, including infrastructure upgrades, staff training, and enhanced security to prevent such incidents in the future.
The authorities are now working to ensure that Jakoba is brought back into custody and have reminded the public that anyone who aids or collaborates with him in any way will also face legal consequences.
