Deputy appointed for Dwarkasing

Local | By Correspondent August 8, 2023

WILLEMSTAD - Cheryl van Ommeren has been appointed as the new Deputy Head of Veterinary Affairs. Her appointment took effect on July 31st, as reported by the Ministry of Health, Environment, and Nature. She is replacing Arnold Dwarkasing, who has been placed on administrative leave due to an ongoing investigation.

In her role as Acting Head, the veterinarian is responsible for the daily management of the government organization. She has also been specifically tasked with making the documents and regulations pertaining to Veterinary Affairs accessible to Minister Pisas, who is also responsible for environment and nature.

Dwarkasing came under scrutiny after he euthanized the puppies Tiffany and Igor. The owners had brought the two French Bulldogs from the Dominican Republic. According to Dwarkasing, the animals were not fully vaccinated, leading to their seizure and euthanasia within 24 hours. This decision was met with outrage and served as the basis for disciplinary action against the Head of Veterinary Affairs.
