WILLEMSTAD - A delegation from the National Slavery Museum, currently under development, paid a working visit to Curaçao this week. The visit is part of a broader collaboration with local organizations to share knowledge and raise awareness about the legacy of slavery and its impact on contemporary society.

Led by the director of the National Slavery Museum, the delegation traveled to Curaçao to visit local cultural institutions and discuss potential collaborations. During the visit, various heritage sites were toured, including the Tula Museum and the Kura Hulanda Museum, where the delegation learned about how slavery is represented in the Caribbean.

One of the key points of the visit was to explore future collaboration opportunities between the new museum in the Netherlands and institutions in Curaçao. “We see great potential in the way Curaçao commemorates its slavery past and are eager to learn from local experiences,” said a spokesperson for the delegation.

The delegation was particularly interested in the slavery heritage of Curaçao and how it can be connected to the broader narrative of slavery within the Kingdom of the Netherlands. Another important topic of discussion was involving young people in raising awareness of this history. Local experts and historians shared their insights during several meetings, where plans for educational projects were also discussed.

The visit also led to an exploratory discussion about a possible exhibition at the National Slavery Museum, focusing on the story of the Caribbean slave trade and the resistance of the enslaved.
