WILLEMSTAD – For the first time ever, a steel band from the Dutch military participated in Curaçao’s Grand Carnival Parade (Gran Marcha). On Sunday, the band delivered an energetic musical performance, playing specially arranged Tumba and Soca numbers.
The steel band is part of the Dutch Marine Corps and has previously performed in carnival parades on Aruba, where it was originally formed in 1969. Over the years, the band's signature sound gained popularity in the Netherlands as well. Their participation in Curaçao’s carnival parade highlights the collaboration within the Caribbean branch of the Dutch military and the unifying power of cultural events.

Final Performance at the Farewell Parade
In addition to their performance at the Gran Marcha, the steel band will once again take to the streets tonight for the Marcha di Despedida, the traditional closing parade of the carnival season.
The band frequently performs at festivals, events, and official receptions. Within the military, they also play a ceremonial role at royal and national occasions. Their debut in Curaçao’s carnival is seen as a symbol of cultural connection and shared traditions across the Dutch Caribbean.
