WILLEMSTAD - Soldiers of the Primary Health Care Company Region Carib have been trained by the Department of Health Service (GGD) to test the population for COVID-19. They will support the GGD in taking tests in Curaçao.
The recently trained team consists of a General Military Doctor (AMA) and two General Military Nurses (AMV). During the training, attention was paid to performing the tests, but also to ensuring safe working. Putting on and taking off protective clothing, infection prevention, patient approach, correct sampling of nose or throat swabs and clinical assessment of the physician were teaching subjects provided by the GGD.
In order to ensure that language is not a barrier to taking tests, a military nurse has also been trained who speaks Papiamento. The military will alternate the GGD teams with the test on the island in the coming period.
