WILLEMSTAD - Defense Minister Kajsa Ollongren unveiled the nameplate of the Forward Operating Base during her official visit to the Caribbean, as reported by Defense Caribbean Area.

The military facility, located in Wacao in Curaçao, has been named after the war and resistance hero George Maduro. George Maduro, a courageous figure from Curaçao, sacrificed his life in the fight for the freedom of the Kingdom of the Netherlands.
In the presence of Maduro's relatives, as well as the Prime Minister and Governor of Curaçao, the Minister of Defense revealed the official name of the Forward Operating Base. Prior to the unveiling ceremony, the Minister was given a tour of Wacao by the Company in the West.
In a previous development in 2018, a training village named Camp Dovale, also located in Wacao, was dedicated to the memory of Rudy Dovale, another heroic figure with Curaçaoan-Dutch roots.
