Defense assists with flood relief in Curaçao

Local | By Correspondent September 3, 2024

WILLEMSTAD - This past weekend, Curaçao experienced severe thunderstorms and heavy rainfall on Saturday night and throughout Sunday, causing significant issues across the island, particularly in the Banda'Bou region. In response, the military unit Compagnie in de West was deployed to assist the local population, providing support to the Curaçao Police Force (KPC) and the Red Cross.

One notable rescue involved helping a man with disabilities evacuate from his flooded home, which had become inaccessible for ambulances. Additionally, air-mobile soldiers assisted stranded motorists, helping to get their vehicles back on the road.

Providing aid to local authorities during emergencies is one of the three primary responsibilities of Defense forces in the Caribbean region.
