Decline in medical specialists reported at CMC

Local | By Correspondent May 1, 2024

WILLEMSTAD - In the latest development at the Curaçao Medical Center (CMC), there has been a significant departure of medical specialists over the past year. Furthermore, the recruitment process has seen setbacks, with several physicians withdrawing their applications. According to sources familiar with the matter, there are now 17 fewer medical specialists employed at the hospital compared to the previous year.

This information comes from sources who have gained access to a report submitted by the hospital to the Inspectorate for Public Health. The report sheds light on the concerning trend of medical professionals leaving the institution.

The specialists who have departed held positions in critical departments such as emergency care, orthopedics, anesthesia, intensive care, and neurology. The loss of expertise in these key areas raises concerns about the hospital's ability to maintain its standard of care.

In response to the exodus of specialists, the management team at CMC is actively strategizing to mitigate the impact. Efforts are underway to address the staffing shortages and ensure that the hospital continues to provide quality healthcare services to the community.
