THE HAGUE - The House of Representatives' Finance Committee has delayed its decision on the tax treaty desired by Curaçao with San Marino.
Foreign Minister Wopke Hoekstra has requested that the House finalize the treaty without further debate. It was anticipated that the NSC party, similar to its approach with the tax treaty between Curaçao and Malta, would push for a plenary discussion. However, the party remained silent during today's procedural meeting. VVD committee member Van Eijk stated the need to thoroughly study the dossier first, resulting in the postponement of the decision.
With time running short, there is an urgency to address both tax treaties before the upcoming IpKo meeting in early June. The intention is to discuss these treaties in the presence of delegates from the Parliament of Curaçao, who will be in the Netherlands for the IpKo meeting.
Meanwhile, the Finance Committee is still awaiting a response to its questions regarding the tax treaty with Malta. The pending answers add to the urgency of resolving these issues promptly to ensure timely discussions and decisions.
