Dayanarah Roozendal Set to Become New Minister of Social Affairs, Labor, and Welfare

Local | By Correspondent January 23, 2025

WILLEMSTAD Sources have confirmed today that Dayanarah Roozendal will soon be sworn in as the new Minister of Social Affairs, Labor, and Welfare (SOAW) for the KEM party. She has successfully passed all screening procedures and is expected to be appointed within a few days.

Roozendal will take over the role from interim Minister-President Gilmar 'Pik' Pisas, who has been serving as the acting head of the SOAW ministry since January 15, 2024. Pisas assumed this role following the departure of Javier Silvania from the ministry and will continue in this capacity until Roozendal’s official appointment.

After the PNP party left the government in August 2024, the SOAW ministry was placed under financial supervision. This meant that no expenditures could be made by the ministry without approval from the Minister of Finance, Javier Silvania. This measure was agreed upon when the KEM party joined the coalition government, but the supervision has now been lifted.

Roozendal’s appointment is seen as a crucial step as the government works to stabilize the ministry and move forward with its operations.
